1830 – The General Assembly's Institution, now the Scottish Church College, one of the pioneering institutions that ushered the Bengali renaissance, is founded by Alexander Duff and Raja Ram Mohan Roy, in Calcutta, India.


1960 - John F. Kennedy won the Democratic presidential nomination at the party's convention in Los Angeles.

1903 – Birth day of Sanjayan, Manikkoth Ramunni Nair (MR Nair) was a Malayalam satirist famous for his humorous anecdotes.  Sanjayan was born in Thalassery, a town in Kannur District of Kerala. (Death on 1944)

1909 – Birth day of E.M.S (EM Shankaran Namboothiripad) was an Indian communist politician and theorist, who served as the first Chief Minister of Kerala state in 1957–59 and then again in 1967–69. (Death on 1998)
