  • ·     Nisid Hajari wins 2016 Colby Award for Best Military Book

Nisid Hajari has won the 2016 William E. Colby Award for his book, “Midnight’s Furies: The Deadly Legacy of India’s Partition.” Now in its 17th year, the Colby prize is awarded annually by Norwich University to a first-time author in recognition of a work of fiction or non-fiction that has made a major contribution to the understanding of military history, intelligence operations or international affairs.

“Midnight’s Furies” covers the 1947 partition of India and the violence that surrounded that event.

Winners of the Colby book award receive a $5,000 author honorarium provided through a grant from the Chicago-based Tawani Foundation.
  • ·     Van der Horst, Welten of Netherlands named 2015′s best hockey players

The International Hockey Federation or FIH has named Robert Van der Horst and Lidewij Welten of Netherlands as the 2015 Players of the Year in the men’s and women’s categories respectively. India’s Akashdeep Singh missed out on the junior player award. Ruhr beat Indian striker Akashdeep, Australian Blake Govers, and two others for the award.

Football Player David Beckham has been conferred with the Danny Kaye Humanitarian Leadership Award at the sixth biennial UNICEF Ball in Los Angeles. Sir Elton John and David Furnish presented the award to Beckham at the black-tie gala event, honouring him for his tireless work to save and improve the lives of children around the world.
  • ·     Subhashini Vasanth honoured with Neerja Bhanot Award

The Neerja Bhanot Pan Am Trust will be conferring the Neerja Bhanot award on Subhashini Vasanth of Bengaluru in Chandigarh. The award will be presented by Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor, who is playing the lead role in biopic “Neerja”. The trust said that “This is the 24th year of the annual award which comprises Rs 1,50,000, a citation and a trophy.”
