• Four Indian-American engineers and two Indians were on 8 February 2016 elected to National Academy of Engineering (NAE) of the USA for their outstanding contributions to engineering research, practice, or education.

While Indo-Americans Anil K Jain, Dr Arati Prabhakar, Ganesh Thakur and Dr K R Sridhar were part of 80 newly-elected members, Reliance Industries CMD Mukesh Ambani and former technocrat Sam Pitroda were part of 22 foreign members.

Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda on 11 February 2016 released the National Framework for Malaria Elimination (NFME) 2016-2030 at New Delhi. The framework outlines India’s strategy for elimination of the disease by 2030.

NFME document defines goals, objectives, strategies, targets and timelines to eliminate malaria from the country. It will serve as a roadmap for advocating and planning malaria elimination from the country in a phased manner.

• The United Arab Emirates (UAE) on 11 February 2016 appointed women ministers to the newly created portfolios for happiness and tolerance, and youth affairs.


Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum named eight women as he revealed his latest cabinet line-up of 29 ministers.
The cabinet that has eight new ministers, including five women with an average age 38.

• UNESCO report entitled Colour? What Colour? was presented on 9 February 2016 at the General Assembly of the European Club Association in Paris.

The report was launched by UNESCO and Juventus in November 2015 to present measures to fight on racism and discrimination in international football.
